Abstract

The aim of this work is the development of new lubricants which can be used instead of standard lubricant materials like oil, graphite or silicone. New thermoplastic matrix composites (TPMC) with good tribological, chemical and thermal properties have been developed by incorporating poly(tetrafluoroethylene)(PTFE) micropowders. By optimizing the chemical and technological working conditions new compounds on the base of poly(oxymethylene)(POM) as matrix and 5% irradiated PTFE powders (dose 4 MGy) could be obtained. These materials are offering good mechanical parameters and are expected to be used for maintenance-free functional elements that suffer strong tribological stress.
