In the project HoWa-innovativ, a demonstrator of a new precipitation-based flood early warning system has been developed using attenuation data from commercial mobile phone networks. In the process, data from a globally existing infrastructure has been opportunistically valorised by artificial intelligence (AI) for a completely new application, in this case for public services.
