Abstract

The electroweak (EW) Zjj process is sensitive to vector boson fusion (VBF) and features a cross-section significantly larger than that of the closely related vector boson scattering (VBS) process. This makes Zjj an ideal prototype for developing and benchmarking experimental techniques. This thesis presents a feasibility study evaluating the potential to measure the polarization of the Z-boson in Zjj events using the methodology of angular coefficients. An analytical method is employed to construct polarization templates from simulated data. The feasibility was evaluated by fitting these templates in a maximum likelihood to the same simulated data, scaled to an integrated luminosity of 140 fb−1, equivalent to LHC Run 2. The study demonstrated sensitivity primarily to the angular coefficients A0 , A2 , and A8 and showed that a differential measurement of the longitudinal polarization fraction as a function of the Z-boson’s transverse momentum is feasible in this dataset, with statistical uncertainties below 10% up to 400 GeV.
