Abstract
Facade integration of a load-bearing bonded PVT collector. PVT collectors combine a photovol-taic (PV) and a solar thermal system in one single module. Therefore, the system generates heat and electricity simultaneously and achieves a higher utilization of the available solar irradiation per square meter surface area, compared to the separate installation of PV and solar thermal systems. By cooling of the PV with a heat exchanger, the system generates higher electrical yields and useful heat. A modular PVT facade system was developed to use the facade surfaces for this form of energy generation. Through load-bearing bonds on the back of the PV modules, high aesthetic demands and the possibility to demount the modules are achieved. The constructional design of the collector developed in an iterative process, since the geometries of the heat exchanger, adhe-sive joints, fastening system, and PV modules influence each other. In this way, constructional, energetic and design objectives are met.
