Fabrication of a textile reinforcement from hemp fibres

Abstract

Textiles made from natural fibres, such as hemp, are promising alternatives to synthetic reinforcements such as carbon or glass. Yet, their industrial production is not fully documented. This study describes the production of a textile fabric made of hemp yarns. By optimising the process on a multiaxial warp knitting machine, a stable and continuous production was ensured. In addition, epoxy resin impregnation enhanced durability and handling, which are essential for structural applications. Tests confirm the required tensile strength resistance. This demonstrates the potential of hemp fibre as a sustainable reinforcement solution and paves the way for further advances in environ-mentally friendly construction materials.
