Abstract
This study compares catches from five commonly used flight-trap models (Bottle-, Cross-Vane Win-dow-, Intercept Panel-, 12-Unit Multiple-Funnel and Slot-Trap) for sampling insect populations in plant protection practice. The focus lies on the abundances of non-native ambrosia beetles, Xylosandrus germanus and Gnathotrichus materiarius, as well as differences in taxonomic diversity among the sam-ples. Over an eight-week period between May and June 2021, a total of 31.686 individuals from the class Insecta were recorded. The Intercept-Panel traps outperformed the other trap types, capturing significantly more individuals of both target species. The Bottle Traps recorded the fewest individuals of these species, mostly with significant differences. A similarity analysis revealed that different trap types influenced the composition of taxa in the samples. Taxonomic diversity was investigated within insect orders, beetle families, and ambrosia beetle species. While window traps captured a wide spec-trum of insect orders, Baker traps exhibited lower diversity of families and bark beetle species within Coleoptera. No specific trap type proved to be optimal for capturing a multitude of taxa within these groups, although funnel traps demonstrated a certain tendency towards it.
