Abstract
Depersonalization/derealization symptoms are frequently experienced during confrontations with feared stimuli or situations. For assessing these situational depersonalization/derealization experiences, we adapted the Cambridge Depersonalization Scale (CDS). The psychometric properties of the CDS-situational (CDS-S) were examined in 2 studies. In total 53 patients with social anxiety disorder and 32 healthy controls rated the CDS-S and state anxiety directly after the Trier Social Stress Test which was conducted twice within 4 months. Furthermore, the CDS-S was assessed by 26 students high in test anxiety and 43 students low in test anxiety directly after an oral examination and 7 days later. Depending on the study, Cronbachs alpha (alpha >= .88), item selectivity, split-half reliability (rtt >= .74) and retest reliability (rtt = .40-.88) were acceptable to excellent. Factorial and construct validity and sensitivity of change were satisfactory. The CDS-S assessment of situational depersonalization/derealization in 2 studies was reliable and valid. We recommend using the CDS-S to measure depersonalization/derealization.
