Abstract

The implementation of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in infrastructure construction projects has been a main goal of the German infrastructure administration over the last ten years. However, BIM was mainly used in the planning phases of these projects. To use its full potential, BIM must be implemented in all phases of the structure’s lifespan. Several railway infrastructure projects, where BIM has been used in the planning and in the construction phases, are to be analyzed to evaluate the efficiency and quality improvements achieved through the application of the BIM methodology. For that, a data analysis concept is developed formulating assessment parameters to objectively evaluate the quantitative and qualitative changes caused by the introduction of BIM into the planning and construction phases of the infrastructure project. The parameters are weighted using grades. Using the parameters, one of the projects is analyzed and rated exemplarily. The analysis and the concept is discussed.
