Abstract

In the past there were done a lot of tests and research about the dynamic behaviour of concrete. But there are just a few publications about the properties of concrete under multiaxial dynamic loading. In this paper the multiaxial dynamic compressive tests at concrete, published since the 1960s, are conducted and compared in their most important results. From the analysis of the biaxial results, a significant trend arises. With increasing lateral pressure, the dynamic compressive strength increases at the same strain rate. That means that fundamentally a superposition of the strength enhancing factors from biaxial and dynamic loading can be assumed.
At this point of knowledge further test series at the Institute of Concrete Structures at Technische Universität Dresden were carried out, by studying the influence of biaxial stress state and dynamic loading on the compressive strength of concrete systematically. Therefore one- and biaxial static, biaxial static-dynamic and one- and biaxial dynamic compression tests were performed at a concrete C20/25.
