Abstract
To ensure long-term reliability of HVDC cable systems, the temperature of the components must not exceed the given thermal limits. Use of Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) enables monitoring of thermal performance along the route.
The measured temperature of a fibre with fixed placement delivered by the DTS needs to be correlated to the temperature in the conductor and joint connector areas, where hot spots are typically located. This paper presents the data obtained in a small-scale high-current laboratory setup using DTS measurement and evaluates its significance compared to a temperature distribution determined using a parallel measuring setup with thermocouples.
