Abstract

The stability behaviour of in-plane loaded glass panes have been started to be described by analytical and numerical methods in the last years. In these former contributions a hinged support and a load application into the glass pane is always assumed.
This paper describes the effect of the clamping of the pane corners due to the fitting and the clamping effect due to the plastic block element that acts as load application constructions.
The effect of the clamping fittings on the deflection and principal stresses was investigated at experimental buckling testing of single FT-glass panes. The tests were performed at 1800 mm x 1260 mm glass panes. The load of up to 200 kN was applied at the four corners by means of hydraulic presses due to 80 mm long plastic blocks into the glass edge.
The friction between block element and glass edge significantly influences the buckling stability. The numerical simulation delivers comprehensive results about that effect.
