The dissipation of hydraulic energy in hydraulic structures and water management facilities usually takes the form of heat and sound, often referred to as hydraulic losses. Further consideration of sound and noise emissions is generally not given. This paper outlines a calculation method for predicting sound power levels at weirs with free overflow. This approach has been calibrated using hydraulic laboratory tests and verified through measurements taken on a real structure.
