Abstract
In a drinking experiment a patient was given 1.8 g/kg/h of ethanol in the form of Ouzo to test his statement to sense no cognitive impairments even after massive consumption of alcohol because of a stereotactic operation in 1996. The experiment had to be interrupted due to adverse reactions after the patient had drunk 0.66 litre of Ouzo. The elimination phase was only reached 5 1/2 hours after drinking had been stopped. The elimination rate per hour was 0.18 ‰. Methanol formation was significantly slower after the cessation of drinking than during the ethanol resorption phase. The rates of formation of n-propanol and ethyl glucuronide per hour were in the same order as that of methanol after the cessation of drinking, but only a small amount of ethyl glucuronide was formed in total. The concentration/time curves of ethanol, methanol, n-propanol, and ethyl glucuronide in the blood are given and the constants of formation and elimination of these compounds are calculated.
