Abstract

Plant Asset Management (PAM) Systems constitute one approach to the vertical integration of information in factory and process automation. Besides of using software components such as OPC UA servers as access points on field level, one possibility is to use devices specifically designed for this purpose. These devices can be connected to a field bus without retro action on the automation system to acquire asset information. In this context the PAM system is a complex system which may contain further devices for data processing and storage and that has a multi-layer (distributed) software architecture. Such a system needs to e configured. For the configuration, information has to be acquired from diverse sources and a transformation of this information has to take place. This article analyzes the requirements to the engineering of such a system, identifies sources of information and gives msides on the implementation of a flexible solution for an engineering tool.
