Abstract
Navigation for people with blindness remains a critical challenge despite advances in digital mapping tools. This paper examines the potential and efficacy of using animated tactile patterns for directional guidance on a pin-matrix display. A software application was developed to generate and animate tactile patterns, and a user study was conducted with two blind participants to assess their practicality in aiding route navigation. Findings indicate that while dynamic tactile representations improve route traceability, factors such as pattern recognizability, interaction techniques, and user familiarity play crucial roles in their effectiveness. Further improvements are necessary, underscoring the need to refine and optimize tactile animations.
