An Unusual Tri-coordinate Co(II) Silylamide with Potential for Chemical Vapor Deposition Processes

Abstract

A transamination reaction of bis(bis(trimethylsilylamido)) cobalt(II) with rac-N2,N3-di-tert-butylbutane-2,3-diamine yielded the tri-coordinate, mononuclear complex rac-N2,N3-di-tert-butylbutane-2-amino-3-amido-(bistrimethylsilylamido) cobalt(II), that was thoroughly characterized in terms of structure and bonding. A strongly distorted trigonal-planar coordination was established around the central Co(II) ion and significant torsion induced in the aminoamido ligand. Despite its fragile-appearing nature, the title compound demonstrated unexpectedly high thermal stability, volatility and overall favorable evaporation behavior illustrating its potential as precursor for chemical vapor deposition related processes.
