Abstract

Vacuum cleaners, which are one of the most loudest and annoying household electrical appliance has its acoustic signature in the form of a very broadband frequency noise with several tonal components. Although DIN EN 60704 clearly prescribes the placement of the suction tube and the body of the vacuum cleaner closer together as they are both potential noise sources, such a placement does not fully correspond to the actual user case scenario. Therefore, this study focuses on a more end-user case oriented arrangement to analyze the effect of placement of the suction tube and the body of the vacuum cleaner on the perceived noise. The secondary objective is to understand the effects of disassembling the individual components that make up the vacuum cleaner to study their effects in either amplifying or attenuating the source noise.
