Abstract

his paper presents a review of building integrated photovoltaic (BIPV) technologies such as crystalline PV cells, amorphous Si photovoltaic, etc. within the laminated glass pane, the analysis of their properties, visual qualities as well as architectural aspects. It aims to highlight and further investigate the promising solutions regarding their potential to be integrated into an innovative hybrid timber‐glass composite structure. Finally, the review discusses the fail‐safe concepts of the proposed façade build‐ups and its applicability in different locations of the building envelope. The study is made to identify the possibilities to integrate photovoltaic into a load‐bearing timber glass composite element. Such composite are being investigated within the ongoing international research project under WoodWisdom‐Net program: URBAN WOOD. Wood based construction for multi‐story buildings. The Potential of Application of Timber‐Glass Composite Structures for Building Construction.
