Abstract
Bonding behavior of carbon-reinforced concrete based on clinker-efficient ready-mixed concrete. Until now, new structural elements made of carbon-reinforced concrete (CRC) have primarily been produced in precast plants and in laboratory settings. Experience of using CRC with ready-mixed concrete is limited, particularly with regard to installing grid-shaped reinforcement. A significant obstacle to the widespread use of CRC with ready-mixed concrete is the more demanding profile of requirements for CRC production on construction sites: Climate, transport, and installation processes require significantly more robust concrete mixes in order to avoid adversely affecting the bond between the carbon reinforcement and the concrete. This article presents short-term bond tests on CRC samples with clinker-efficient ready-mixed concretes to evaluate the influence of on-site concreting. For this purpose, three easily compactable and pumpable ready-mixed concrete formulations of strength class C50/60 were developed using different clinker-reduced cements, combined with two carbon reinforcement grids. The CRC specimens were produced under laboratory conditions as well as at high and low ambient temperatures, and with comparatively short and long processing times, in two ready-mixed concrete plants. The results demonstrate that CRC can be successfully produced under these more demanding conditions. However, application limits arise with regard to concrete consistencies and grid geometries.
